frequently asked questions

  • Q. Is direct cremation really only $995? Are there any hidden fees?

Yes — our direct cremation package is a flat $995, and that price includes everything legally required: transportation (within 30 miles), refrigeration, filing of permits and death certificate, cremation, and return of ashes in a plastic urn. There are no hidden fees. Optional services like additional death certificates or upgraded urns are available upon request, but never pushed.

  • Q. How long does the cremation process take?

In most cases, the cremation process — including permits and required waiting periods — takes approximately 7 to 10 business days. This timeline can vary depending on county processing times and family documentation.

  • Q. Can I preplan cremation for myself or a loved one?

Absolutely. Preplanning allows you to secure today’s price of $995 and ensure your wishes are honored in advance. It also relieves your loved ones of financial and emotional decisions during a time of grief. We offer easy and secure preplanning arrangements — just call us to get started.

  • Q. What happens after the cremation is complete?

Once the cremation is complete, we return your loved one’s ashes in a durable plastic urn. You may pick up the ashes from our office by appointment, request delivery (within our service area), or have them mailed to you if preferred.

  • Q. Do you offer in-person consultations or services?

We serve families primarily through phone, email, and our online system for ease and accessibility. However, we also offer appointments at our Alhambra office for those who prefer to meet in person. Please call ahead to schedule an appointment.

  • Q. What documents are required to begin the cremation process?

To begin, we’ll need a completed Authorization for Cremation form, vital statistics for the death certificate, and a signed release form from the place of passing (hospital, nursing home, etc.). Don’t worry — we’ll guide you step-by-step and provide all necessary paperwork.

  • Q. Can we still hold a memorial or celebration of life with direct cremation?

Yes. Many families choose direct cremation first, then host a personalized memorial or ash-scattering ceremony later — at home, outdoors, or at a place that mattered to their loved one. This gives you more flexibility, privacy, and time to plan a meaningful tribute.

  • Q. What type of urn is included? Can we upgrade it?

Our $995 package includes a basic plastic urn, suitable for storage, transport, or scattering. We also offer optional urn upgrades, including wood, metal, biodegradable, or keepsake urns, which can be selected for an additional cost.

  • Q. Do you offer cremation for veterans?

Yes. We are honored to serve veterans and assist families in obtaining VA benefits, military honors, and burial at a national cemetery, when eligible. Cremated remains can also be interred at a veterans’ cemetery. Just let us know during the arrangement process, and we’ll help coordinate the necessary documentation.

  • Q. Do you provide pet cremation services?

No, we do not offer pet cremation services at this time. Cal Direct Cremation focuses exclusively on human cremation arrangements, and we’re happy to refer you to local providers who specialize in compassionate pet aftercare.
